How we choose topics

News Bug covers small business basics for UK founders, focusing on issues such as choosing the right business structure, tax and accounts for your business as well as the day to day running of a business and business finance. Other topics covered are fashion, home, travel and technology, and we choose the topics that our readers are trying to learn about right now, covering each one in a single thorough, up-to-date guide rather than several thin articles. Where we revisit a subject we update the existing article or combine it with another article on the subject rather than producing a near copy.

Sourcing standard

  • Claims about law, tax, money or health are checked against a primary or official source, such as GOV.UK, legislation.gov.uk, HMRC, the Bank of England, the ONS, the NHS or the relevant regulator, and that source is linked.
  • Figures that change over time are dated to the tax year or period they apply to.
  • Historical claims are checked against reputable reference works, and where sources disagree we say so.
  • We do not invent quotes, statistics, case studies or first-hand experiences.
  • Articles explain how things work in general. They are not personal financial, legal or tax advice.

Independence

Articles are written to be useful to readers. If an article contains a commercial link, it will be clearly marked, as well as any other sponsored content.

Corrections

We correct any errors in fact as soon as we can. Where a correction changes the meaning of an article we update the text and also indicate what changed where appropriate to aid the reader. Out-of-date rules and figures are updated when we review the article.
